Made in France

With over 150 years of family heritage, Ligne Roset has proudly crafted its furniture by the banks of the Rhône River since 1860.
All pieces are produced in Briord, within a spacious workshop where most of the work is performed by hand. Creating chairs and sofas demands a high level of craftsmanship. Two master upholsterers train new apprentices, guiding them through the precise techniques and dexterity required. This one-year, in-house training program highlights the value of the craft while ensuring product excellence.
Watching a sofa being upholstered is akin to witnessing a live performance. Every movement flows seamlessly into the next over nearly an hour, a rhythm the upholsterer knows by heart. Industrial processes play only a minor role in chair-making; in Briord, nearly everything is done manually. The skill of each seamstress and upholsterer is key to achieving the exceptional quality Ligne Roset is known for. One can often identify an upholsterer’s unique touch simply by studying the final product—each brings their own style and expertise.
In this bustling workshop, nothing is left to chance. Spools of thread are carefully organized by colour near sewing machines. Carts are arranged to sort stitched components, while foam blocks are sorted by shade—soft pinks, pale yellows, and absinthe greens - each hue indicating a specific density. These will soon be expertly assembled to deliver comfort tailored to each seating design, a signature of Ligne Roset craftsmanship.
The sites at Bourgoin-Jallieu and Saint-Georges de Reneins house additional seamstresses who work alongside the Briord team. These skilled professionals continue to uphold the techniques that define the company’s legacy. A large space in Briord is dedicated to leather storage, where stacks of premium hides in various colours are carefully selected and examined. Even the smallest natural imperfection is identified and marked, ensuring optimal use of the hide’s best qualities during cutting.
Because production involves transporting components between sites, all five factories are located in nearby rural areas. In Saint-Jean le Vieux, bedroom, living room, and office furniture are made in a vast 45,000-square-metre facility. It’s here that Bernard Lipp, great-grandson of the company’s founder, implemented eco-friendly production systems. A sophisticated extraction setup collects wood waste, which is then crushed and used to fuel a boiler that heats the factory and nearby offices. This commitment to sustainability has long been an integral part of Ligne Roset’s ethos.
