Neeru Kumar, an Indian textile designed based in New Delhi, is a graduate of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. An exceptional, inspired talent who, in the course of the past two decades, has been at the forefront of a revolution in the field of Indian textiles. With her use of traditional techniques and indigenous materials, and by dint of research and reflection, she has created an entirely new vocabulary for textile design. This innovation was made possible by the combination of her unique sensitivity, most notably in terms of tones and textures, her profound understanding of weaving and other textile techniques, and her determination to support craftsmanship. Highly productive, she has created a captivating, original and highly contemporary palette whilst pushing at the frontiers of the traditional skills on which she bases her work, which is often described as ‘contemporary classic’. Her works have been exhibited in Japan, Europe, the United States and Australia, in prestigious stores and boutiques and in the shops of the foremost international museums. She counts the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art amongst her most loyal clients.
